Without data, we cannot achieve change

A major component of ADVANCE’s mission will be to closely monitor key metrics on the state of women in PHM and conduct research on gender equity in our field. We will then use this data to inform our advocacy, policy, and career development initiatives.

ADVANCE PHM’s Research and Metrics Task Force will be leading the development of a data infrastructure and dashboard that will allow us to monitor:

  1. The current state of gender equity in the field of PHM.

  2. Critical gender equity issues impacting our workforce over time.

  3. Whether advocacy, policy change, and other interventions are helping to improve the field.

The COVID-19 pandemic has created numerous challenges for women in medicine

The leaders of ADVANCE PHM responded quickly to these concerns and has created guiding principles for institutions on how to support their female hospitalists. Read our publication below!

Fewer than 20% of medical school deans and department chairs are women.
