I was a pediatric hospitalist for many, many years, even before Pediatric Hospital Medicine was identified as a subspecialty! Now, I lead faculty/professional and leadership programs for hospitalists.
Gender equity in medicine. Women face institutionalized barriers to equity in medicine -- it’s time to fix the system so that our patients and communities can receive the best outcomes possible.
I have always been surrounded by people who offered mentorship and advice. In fact, my first inpatient floor attending, who then became my dean, has been a life-long mentor. But as I moved up the career ladder and became a faculty member, I recognized that I needed more than just a didactic mentor -- I needed a network of mentors, sponsors and coaches who could help me to advance my career.
