Recognize that all policies improve equity or make things less equitable. Be vocal in your support of policies that improve equity.

The book Invisible Women (by Caroline Criado-Perez) changed the way I thought about policy making. Our hospital vacation policy was changing, reducing the number of hours we could roll over each year. The policy makers had no idea that young, mostly female, attenings were “banking” these hours for family planning because they did not collect the data. I partnered with the women in my hospitalist division to lobby for a better maternity leave policy to counter balance this reduction in vacation roll over.

I basically have an espresso continuous infusion every AM.
